Professional Networking on Blockchain, NFTs of Posts

Blockchain’s transparency would make it possible to verify the facts stated by individuals on their profiles. Similarly, it would be possible to measure an organization’s true value. Thus a professional’s portfolio may find validation on the blockchain through blockchain-backed professional networking solutions.

What Happened?

Three distinct categories of incidents:

Here’s this top-advertising-brass on LinkedIn that often posts ad-agency life, work-life balance, trivialities, and randomness. In one of his updates, he rants that his post has been copied by another without credits. He takes it up with the person concerned. The situation escalates to a series of stern exchanges ending in the woman behind the ‘copy’ accusing the man behind ‘original post’ of profanity.

At least three individuals wrote on LinkedIn about their ‘job losses’ amid pandemic using exact same words. It is hard to swallow that an individual who’s recently lost their job should resort to copying another’s expression instead of making an effort to describe their own situations. As if this wasn’t enough, one of these three individuals also celebrated her promotion right after this ‘job loss’ post. Now, an unemployed person cannot be promoted. This absurdity provides an insight into a motive-driven campaign to spread insecurity.

A number of women across the globe have spoken out against connections harassing them via private message or spilling indecency in the comment section.

Wonder Why

People plagiarize posts when they find the idea attractive, often ignoring the consequences. They mostly believe it’s no big deal and would easily flaunt a copied idea to gain popularity among their followers.

Fake posts mostly are objective or agenda-driven. They often are larger forces at play behind these seemingly benign posts. Their purposes are to create panic and insecurities among the masses.

Some people mistake a connection request from women for reasons other than strictly professional. Others simply have no business on a professional networking site. If they are ‘blocked’ they move on to their next target.

All of such wrong-doings stem from the confidence that there’s escape without any serious consequence.

The Solution

There is a Blockchain solution to most things; professional networking is a subset of a greater concept. If the professional networking site was powered by blockchain each entity that set up their account on the site would do so using their digital identities. This would eliminate the chances of fake profiles. The individuals and organizations on the site are responsible for their actions for each would be to their true identities. And the fact that actions or responses can make or mar images is true for individuals and organizations.

Blockchain’s transparency would make it possible to verify the facts stated by individuals on their profiles. Similarly, it would be possible to measure an organization’s true value. Thus a professional’s portfolio may find validation on the blockchain. Permissioned access to the site would enable selected entities to access an individual’s CV and portfolio.

Individuals who generate original concepts or revolutionary ideas pertaining to research, engineering, or plain brainstorming may resort to creating NFTs on their original concept to put a stamp of authenticity on their product. This ensures that the original content is traceable back to them. Plagiarism of content and ideas is controllable.

The process of hiring and recruitment would be fair and clear and devoid of intermediaries. Prospective employees would be judged on the basis of their portfolios.

The Drawbacks

The above narrative of the thought-arrangement of fair and certain opportunities would come for a price. The entire process of building professional networking media on a blockchain platform would require considerable research and hence come for an enormous price. To say nothing of Digital Identity and NFT creation.

To Conclude

Despite the price aspect that comes attached to the arrangement, it would serve to enforce a decorum on the professional networking platform. It would also enhance opportunities and turn into a hub of shared knowledge and symbiotic professional association
